Faro de Favàritx

The excursion starts at the picturesque fjord of Addaia, a natural border for the 12 000 acres of the Natural Park. The biggest contrast can be found in the dramatic lunar landscape of Cap de Favàritx, presided over by its solitary lighthouse, the scarce vegetation nearby buffeted by the strong saline Tramuntana winds. A short distance inland is the little hill range of Mongofre with its luscious vegetation. We walk for about 45 min through the salt flats to reach a shady pine grove for our picnic lunch of minorcan products. Afterwards we go to Es Grau where we continue for about 50 min to the heart of the Natural Park, the lagoon of S’Albufera. With its 173 acres it is the most important freshwater lagoon of the Balearics islands, a key place for local birdlife and other animals and insects, along with its endemic flora. Lastly we have time to relax on the beach, have a coffee or visit Es Grau, the little fishing village where the people of Mahón like to spend the summer.
