| Megalithic Minorca |
|||
| Minorca is an island where at every step of the way there are marks of an ancient culture. The island is a singular archaeological open air musem, with over 1600 prehistoric monuments: the highest concentration in the whole of the Mediterranean. Taulas (stone tables), Navetas (hull-shaped burial chambers), Talaiots (defence towers), burial caves dug out in the rock, and whole settlements have survived up to our times, witnesses of the enigmatic life of the sling bearers who developed the talaiotic culture 3500 years ago. We have picked the best preserved megalithic monuments for this ‘journey through time’. We have divided the island geographically, due to the abundance of these ancient monuments, giving you the opportunity to visit the most important and emblematic remains of the eastern and western areas. |
